The Mija Chronicles

Mexican food and culture, on both sides of the border

You’re now in the presence of a Top Global Culinary Guide

June 30, 2011 by Lesley Tellez

I’m humbled and honored to announce that Travel + Leisure magazine named me one of their Top Global Culinary guides in the July 2011 issue! My name is listed in a small section near the back, in stellar company with guides including Robyn Eckhardt and Annisa Helou. I’m also featured on a slideshow on the T+L website.

I’ve worked really hard over the past year, both in giving tours and striving to create a top-notch product with Eat Mexico. Things like this — and our continually satisfied clients — really make it all worth it. I feel like a lucky girl.

Thanks, T+L!

It was a huge undertaking to move to Mexico City, start a business and then put in the kind of work that you have to make the business a success. Your personality and the ability to convey the excitement that you feel is a very large part of it, and if anyone deserves accolades, you do. Congradulations!

Congratulations!! I’ve been checking in on your website since before I moved to Mexico almost a year ago and it is no surprise that you are getting the recognition you deserve.

If you get this message anytime soon, I’d LOVE to know if you have any suggestions for american/contemporary cuisine. Since it’s 4th of July I want to eat somewhere “American” style but simply don’t know the right place. If you have a suggestion, they would be much appreciated!! Thanks!! And happy 4th!!

Hi Ashley: Barracuda Diner is very American, but it’s a diner concept. They’ve got good hot dogs, burgers and curly fries. I also had a pretty good BLT there a few days ago… although the bread was too thick. (Where’s my Pepperidge Farm white bread when I need it?) It’s located in Condesa on Nuevo Leon. You could also try Osteria 8, which isn’t overtly American but it is owned by a former New Yorker. The pizza there is the best I’ve had in Mexico. It’s also in Condesa, at Sinaloa near Veracruz. I’d check to make sure it’s open today. Hope that helps!
